So I met this guy a few years back, but I honestly can’t remember his name. I recently saw him on the cover of a magazine and was later told by a family member that he is now very famous and stars in one the top television shows, which I also don’t know the name of. You might be thinking, “Tony how do you not know who this guy is? I can’t believe you met him! I wish I could have met him!”
After writing the paragraph above I then started searching to figure out who he was. I typed into google “current top television shows” and found that the #2 is called The Walking Dead. I have never seen this show, but after looking on wikipedia it appears it is a show about zombies. Remember that part…I then clicked on the cast and found a picture of Norman Reedus, who I took this photo with. After reading about Norman, I’ll call him Norm for short. I found out that Norm was born January 6th 1969 in Hollywood, Florida. He is most famous for The Walking Dead, Boondock Saints and Blade II. I learned that before acting Norm was making $7.50/hr by working at a motorcycle shop in Venice, California and his trademark is his sunglasses. God has really been growing me recently on religion versus relationship. You see now that I have a picture with Norm, I know all about him from my searches, I could even memorize facts, put up fan posters, buy all of his movies, create facebook fanpages, but do I really know Norman Reedus? The same is true with Christians. We can quote scriptures vs. becoming the scriptures, we can go to church vs. knowing we are the church wherever we go, we can wear the Jesus T-shirt vs. becoming like Jesus, we can have the Fish bumper sticker vs. living our lives for Christ. We can know a lot about God, but not KNOW God. When we meet our creator face to face we will hear one of two things:
1) Well done my good and faithful servant
2) Depart from me I never knew you.
I hope to hear Him say #1. Oh and about the zombies I mentioned. The definition of zombie according to dictionary.com is, “the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.” We are all dead without Christ. We are like zombies, dead, with a semblance of life roaming around not knowing what our purpose is. When Christ enters our life through Faith, we die to ourselves and become new creations. By becoming a Christian we are called to become like Christ.
So I started off by asking if you knew anyone famous, but now I will ask: Do you know God or do you just know about Him?
